To pronounce her name: sh-oo-chee-ahn lyoo

Shuqian Lyu is a director, cinematographer, and scholar living in Ithaca, New York. She studies Performing and Media Arts and Information Science at Cornell University.

She was born in Suzhou, China, and attended United World College of the Atlantic in Wales.

Shuqian has a strong interest in interdisciplinary research. She is a Robert S. Harrison College Scholar, currently working on an honors thesis project Visual Anthropology and Ethics focuses on methods of documentary filmmaking and ethical philosophy of the practice.

She is an aspiring director-cinematographer in the realm of fiction and documentary filmmaking. Her most recent documentary short Synchrotron Symphony (2024) was selected Finalist for the 2024 Raw Science Film Festival and 2024 China International Conference of Science and Education Producers. At the moment, she is working on her interdisciplinary honors thesis titled “Documenting Crypto Extraction: A VR Sensory Ethnography about Bitcoin Mining in Texas.”
